Kobe Bryant’s tragic death…

Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.

— Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant was an American professional basketball player. A shooting guard, Bryant entered the NBA directly from high school, and played his entire 20-season professional career in the league with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant won five NBA championships, was an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team, was named the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), and was a two-time NBA Finals MVP winner. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he led the NBA in scoring during two seasons, ranks fourth on the league’s all-time regular season scoring, and ranks fourth on the all-time postseason scoring list.

Besides Kobe Bryant being an ultimate basketball player, Bryant was a family man and a girls dad having four kids and all happening to be all daughters. January 26, 2020 a very tragic day in history in the sports world a lot of people’s all time favorite player, a dad, and a husband was killed in a harsh helicopter accident. I personally found out through on a Sunday morning while doing my morning workout through Twitter reading from TMZ news. TMZ isn’t always the most credible source so reading this on that morning had me in a shock hoping the news was fake so I kinda just brushed it off but it only got worse. Then I see lots of people starting to tweet and upload to Instagram about the situation and I am starting to think maybe it is true.

Kobe Bryant affected so many people’s lives not only in the sports world but life in general. Although I didn’t personally know him it kinda felt like I lost someone who was close to me. Reading upon people who actually knew Kobe, his teammates, coaches, family members hurt very dearly. Bryant retired in 2016, my senior year of high school and it was not the last time he was heard about. He then created his own basketball team of his own “Mamba Academy” and his daughter Gianna was apart of it. The saddest part of the whole thing and that got to me the most is that his daughter was on the helicopter with Bryant. On the bright side that has a lot of people feeling better is that they were like best friends and they at least got to comfort one another in the tragic moment.

I was computer science before I changed my major to communications and a minor in graphic design. I knew only so little about coding. I know that coding is a big part in our lives know that everything is going digital.

I learned that coding is a skill that it takes dedication and practice to pull off. You have to know exactly what you’re doing to know how to pull things off. What is significant about this to me is anyone can do it. Also when it is completed it is a beautiful tool to see. Of course you can find work/life within coding. I think work can be applied in everyday life.

I guess there is nothing else on the news other than news about the pandemic or it just being related to it in general. A lot of us have got kicked out of our school housing and it is sorta like a second winter break, except we don’t know when we are allowed to go back to school. This article is extremely relatable, things are out of our control with the whole thing going around, but it sorta does remind you of high school because you are not allowed to do what you want when you want like you would in college. There are limited things to do while at home, limited food supply can be a thing as well, etc. It is just not the same as college by any means.

With sports being canceled due to a global Pandemic, this sports blog post will be extremely difficult. The COVID-19 is as serious as the rumors have making it. A lot of people in our society thought it was all fun in games. Our favorite activities/hobbies are now on pause. This has affected the following NCAA/March Madness, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, NHL, Nation Football League, Soccer, WNBA, Tennis, Horse racing, etc. The list goes on.

This pandemic has been every word in the book. No one knows what to think of it and we’re all hoping this is over soon. I had no serious opinion on the COVID-19 until it canceled school is when I started to open my eyes. Also when one of the biggest sport leagues in the nation suspended the season.

It definitely is a tough time for everyone but at the end of the day you have to have faith and follow the rules and everyone will be safe. Things will go back to normal with those simple to things. Faith and structure.

XFL’s Week 4 Games Average 1.4M Viewers as Ratings Drop for 3rd Straight Week. Viewership for the XFL fell for the third straight week. According to Showbuzz Daily, the league’s four games drew an average of 1.4 million viewers over the weekend with a large drop from Saturday to Sunday.

This isn’t a good thing for the XFL trying to be that next big league but it is the start of something and things don’t happen over night. Although the viewers is 1M+ you like to see the ratings stay pretty consistent it’ll give hope to the league but they seem to be doing alright.

The Houston Roughnecks managed to remain as the only undefeated team with a narrow victory over the Dallas Renegades while the Tampa Bay Vipers finally picked up their first win of the season.

The DC Defenders lost their second straight game and dropped to second place outright in the XFL East division thanks to the St. Louis BattleHawks picking up a win. Houston’s win puts the team up two games in the XFL West.

The XFL had some really strong numbers when it came to viewership in its first week and I am happy to report it seems like we all learned our lesson. Everyone seemed to wait with bated breath to find out what XFL ratings would look like in Week 2 and Week 3.

Week 3 of the XFL averaged 1.61 million viewers across ABC, Fox, ESPN, FS1. It seems to be a thing where the viewing is slowly decreasing they’ve now lost almost half of their Week 1 viewers. The product doesn’t seem to be sticking. There needs to be a bottom, but we don’t know where that bottom is.

The Houston Roughnecks remained undefeated with a narrow victory over the Tampa Bay Vipers. P.J. Walker became the second quarterback to throw for more than 300 passing yards (306) in the 34-27 win. He also had three touchdowns – all to Cam Phillips. Their 17-yard hookup proved to be the game-winning score with 10:31 remaining in the game.

According to XFL writer Mike Mitchell, the league averaged 2.26 million viewers across the Week 2 games that aired on ABC. Steve Desaulniers of CNBC noted that represented a decrease from the 2.9 million viewer average of the Week 1 games on ABC and ESPN.

Piggy backing off of the last post, the XFL renewing their league put some entertainment after the Nation Football League for football fans. To some up some of the games.

The DC Defenders and the Houston Roughnecks are the only two teams to remain undefeated after the first two weeks of the season. The Tampa Bay Vipers and the Los Angeles Wildcats remain winless after their games. Every other team is in the middle of the pack in their respective decisions.

The DC Defenders became the first team in XFL history to record a shutout when they defeated the New York Guardians, 27-0. Cardale Jones was 23-for-37 with 276 passing yards and two touchdown passes in the win. DeAndre Thompkins and Derrick Hayward had the touchdown grabs. Going against a former Monmouth Tight End that plays for that New York Guardian team.

There’s always debates about whether or not NCAA athletes should be paid. There are many pros and cons that factor in this debate. Many people say this should not even be a discussion because most athletes that are considered deserving of money are usually on some type of scholarship whether it is athletic, academic, and a mix of multiple different ones. Some say free education is enough in exchange for playing a sport.

Most people do not realize that playing a sport is more than just your competition. It truly takes a toll on your body and some people do not notice what it takes to get into that point. Some people come from different backgrounds and families are not made of money so those athletes who are in that situation could probably benefit from that.

A couple  pros of athletes being paid can provide a healthier lifestyle because they do not have to rely on just the school’s nutrition and can search from themselves. It can take weight off of the shoulders of families because as stated before not everyone’s family comes from wealth.

A couple cons of athletes being paid can eliminate the line of amateur competition and professional in terms of money obviously, but then again not everyone can become a professional athlete so at the end of the day it is hard either way. It could prioritize athletics over academics.

The XFL is a professional American football league owned by Vince McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment, and is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. It is the successor to the original XFL, which was controlled by the World Wrestling Federation and NBC, and ran for a single season in 2001. The league follows a similar structure as the original XFL did in 2001, with eight teams, centrally owned and operated by the league and spread across the United States in markets currently or recently represented by a National Football League franchise, competing in a ten-game season and a two-week postseason in the winter and spring months, after the Super Bowl.

The XFL originally ran for a single season in 2001, as a joint venture between WWF and NBC spearheaded by Vince McMahon and NBC executive Dick Ebersol. The league attempted to be a competitor to the National Football League, the predominant professional league of American football in the United States, running during the late winter and early spring to take advantage of lingering desire for football after the end of the NFL season. It featured various modifications to the rules of football in order to increase its intensity, as well as on-air innovations such as Skycams, placing microphones on players, and in-game interviews with players. The league was ultimately criticized for relying too heavily on “sports entertainment” gimmicks similar to professional wrestling, and for the lack of high-level talent among its players. Despite strong ratings for its first games, viewership eventually nosedived, and the league folded after the conclusion of the inaugural season. Both partners lost $35 million on the XFL, and McMahon eventually conceded that the league was a “colossal failure”.

This league opening up gives a lot of opportunity for many football athletes that have dreamt of playing professional football. There are many guys who did not have the opportunity that others will in the future.
